Due to a recent internal promotion, we are currently seeking a talented & motivated individual to become a key member of our collaborative, forward thinking Community Development Department, serving in the key role of Building Official to oversee the building division operations. The Building Official is responsible for planning, supervising, and coordinating the Building Division’s activities and operations with a staff of 9 full-time employees. This position is the authorized enforcement officer of the Building Code which includes the location, design, materials, constructions, alteration, repair, equipment, maintenance, use, occupancy, removal and demolition of the buildings, structures and appurtenances located in the Village of Tinley Park.
The ideal candidate will possess an outstanding work ethic, positive attitude, and be self-motivated. They will be familiar with principles, practices, and objectives of municipal government, be customer service focused, be well versed in a wide range or residential and commercial building applications and be able to manage effectively during period of high volume. They will be an excellent communicator, have the ability to motivate a dedicated staff, and focus on efficient and effective management of daily operations. Must be able to work collaboratively and effectively communicate technical and non-technical information providing a high level of customer service.
Bachelor’s degree in building engineering, architecture, or construction engineering is highly preferred. A minimum of five (5) years to seven (7) years of experience in the building design or construction industry, building or housing inspection, code enforcement, or closely related field with at least three (3) years in a supervisory capacity is also required. Must have a valid driver’s license.
Required ICC Certifications: ICC Residential Building Inspector
ICC Certification to be Obtained Within 6 Months of Hire: ICC Residential Energy Inspector, ICC Commercial Building and ICC Commercial Energy Inspector or ICC Commercial Combination Inspector
Compensation & Benefits: The salary range for this position is $113,906 – $153,773 DOQ plus a generous benefit package including medical, dental, and vision benefits, employer-paid life insurance and other ancillary benefit options. Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) are provided along with the option to participate in a 457(b) deferred compensation plan. In addition, paid holiday, vacation, personal, and sick days are provided.
