Sr. Network Engineer – Break/Fix, Juniper Routing, and F5 Configuration
Location : Oakland, CA (Onsite )
Duration : 6+ months (possibility of extension)
Project Overview
This Scope of Work (SOW) defines the objectives, scope, and deliverables for the Network Engineer consulting engagement. The primary goal of this engagement is to provide expert-level support for break/fix network incidents, Juniper routing configurations, and F5 load balancer and Web Application Firewall (WAF) management. The consultant will ensure the stability, security, and optimal performance of the client’s production network. Experience interfacing and maintaining ISP connectivity and troubleshooting ISP issues and WAN issues would be a plus. Experience with Fortinet, F5, Juniper, Arista are all required.
2. Scope of Services
The Network Engineer will perform the following services:
Provide on-demand break/fix support for network incidents impacting production systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve Layer 2 and Layer 3 routing issues within Juniper-based environments.
Configure, maintain, and optimize Juniper routers, including routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, etc.).
Administer and configure F5 load balancers, including VIP creation, pool management, and SSL offload.
Configure and tune F5 Web Application Firewall (WAF) policies for enhanced application security.
Perform firmware or software upgrades on Juniper and F5 devices as required.
Assist with network health checks, performance tuning, and configuration validation.
Document configurations, changes, and incident resolutions for client review and knowledge transfer.
3. Roles and Responsibilities
Consultant Responsibilities:
Provide timely response to support requests and incidents.
Perform all configuration and troubleshooting activities in coordination with client IT staff.
Maintain detailed documentation of all actions and recommendations.
Client Responsibilities:
Provide remote or onsite access to all necessary systems and devices.
Designate a technical point of contact for coordination and approvals.
Ensure all maintenance windows and change control approvals are scheduled in advance.
4. Assumptions and Exclusions
All hardware and software required for maintenance and configuration will be provided by the client.
Work will be performed in a hybrid 3-day onsite/2-days remote per week engagement unless otherwise agreed.
Consultant is not responsible for unrelated systems or applications outside of the defined scope.
5. Deliverables
Incident and resolution documentation for each break/fix engagement.
Updated configuration and topology documentation for Juniper and F5 devices.
Post-resolution summary reports outlining actions taken and recommendations.
Knowledge transfer session with client IT staff upon completion of major changes
This is going to be break/fix work, and specialization on F5, Fortinet, and Juniper core routing.
