DeKalb, IL – Building Custodian

The City of DeKalb is seeking a dedicated full-time Building Custodian to join our Public Works team! This essential role ensures the cleanliness and upkeep of our City office buildings and grounds and helps to create a positive experience for staff and visitors alike.

As a Building Custodian, you will be responsible for performing a variety of custodial and maintenance tasks, including daily cleaning of offices and common areas, minor repairs, and the operation of basic building systems. You will also help maintain outdoor areas such as walkways and entrances and may be called upon to assist during emergency situations such as snow events, flooding, or heavy rain. Regular working hours for this position are Monday through Friday, from 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

To qualify, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and possess a valid driver’s license. Prior custodial or building maintenance experience a plus!

The starting payrate is $ 24.81 per hour. The current AFSCME 2025 Wage Schedule for the position is between $24.81 – $32.52 per hour.
