The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applicants for the position of FOIA Specialist in the City Clerk’s Office.
The FOIA Specialist processes Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests. This individual reviews and analyzes FOIA requests exercising discretion and judgement in the application of laws, regulations, and City practices related to the FOIA.
The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Review and process FOIA requests and apply redactions; Coordinate with staff or requester pertaining to FOIA requests to determine status or resolve issues; Review and process the FOIA response documents; Use an electronic tracking system to track, manage and complete FOIA assignments and maintain case files; Collaborate with City staff, Illinois Attorney General Public Access Counselor, and other agencies on FOIA related matters; Monitor, analyze, and evaluate the FOIA program on an ongoing basis; Complete regular reviews to streamline the City FOIA process and resolve policy or technical issues; Update and post City of Aurora FOIA Disclosures; Other duties as assigned.
This position requires the completion of a college degree in Public Administration or Business Administration or equivalent in work experience; Preferred Juris Doctor Degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school and admission to the Illinois Bar Association.
This position also requires a minimum of two years’ experience in a municipal/public sector/legal environment. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to physical, drug screen, and background check.
This is a full-time, executive position. The salary range is $73,528.00 – $98,716.80 with starting rate dependent on experience and qualifications, but in most cases is no higher than the midpoint of the range.
