Director of Planning (Full-Time, Salaried)

ABOUT US: The Glenview Park District is an independent local government agency that provides beautiful parks and outstanding recreational opportunities for the residents of Glenview, IL and beyond. Major facilities include a 170,000 sq. ft. community center, three aquatic centers, an 18-hole golf course with clubhouse and restaurant, a 9-hole golf course with platform tennis, a tennis club, an ice center, a 1920s dairy farm, an 1850s nature/history center, and newly renovated administrative offices. The District has over 100 full-time employees, 300 year-round, part-time employees and another 500 summer/temporary employees.
JOB SUMMARY: The Director of Planning reports to the Division Director of Park and Facility Services and is responsible for the district-wide planning and design related to the development, maintenance and renovation of open space, parks and playgrounds. Oversees bid specifications, requests for proposals and contracts. Accountable for compliance with project budgets. Coordinates exchange of service projects with local school districts.
QUALIFICATIONS: Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture or related field. Will consider significant and material experience in lieu of formal education. At least five (5) years of relevant experience are required. The best candidates will have knowledge of planning and design principles and the ability to relate those principles to the park and recreation fields and facilities, principles and techniques relating to construction materials and methods, turf, tree and shrub management and the use of plant materials, development of specifications and bid documents and drawing and lettering of plans and other graphic presentations. Professional certification(s) and/or active membership in a professional association is desirable. A valid Illinois driver’s license is required.
SCHEDULING & PAY: This is a full-time, salaried position. The hours are generally Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m., with additional evening and weekend work as needed. The salary range is $90,000-$130,000, with an anticipated hiring salary expected to fall within the midpoint of the range and be commensurate with experience.
