The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of IT Operations in the IT Department.

Under direction of the Chief Information Officer (CIO), The Director of IT Operations is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the IT divisions, including Applications, Infrastructure, and Support Desk. This role ensures the reliability, security, and scalability of the City’s IT systems and networks, while aligning technology initiatives with strategic goals. The Director works closely with the CIO to manage budgets, develop strategic plans, and lead cross-functional teams.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Lead and manage daily operations across Applications, Infrastructure, and Support Desk; Collaborate with the CIO to develop and manage the IT budget; Maintain and update the IT Strategic Plan; Evaluate performance metrics and operational effectiveness of IT personnel and systems; Coordinate staffing and project execution with the Project Management Office; Foster strong working relationships across IT divisions and other City departments; Participate in staffing decisions including recruitment, promotions, disciplinary actions, and terminations; Monitor network capacity and performance as well as identify vulnerabilities and coordinate mitigation strategies; Oversee the maintenance and optimization of the City’s optical fiber network; Other related duties as assigned.

This position requires a bachelor’s degree in computer science, business administration, or related field. This position also requires a minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in business administration or management, including experience in the management of network infrastructure, help desk services, applications development and support. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to City Council appointment, physical, drug screen, and background check.

This is a full-time, executive position. The salary range is $129,604.80 – $174,491.20 with starting rate dependent on experience and qualifications, but in most cases is no higher than the midpoint of the range.
