Seasonal Engineering Interns
Salary: $20/hr

The Village of Downers Grove is currently accepting applications for multiple Seasonal Engineering Interns in the Engineering and Community Development Departments.

ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
The Village of Downers Grove is currently accepting applications for two (2) Seasonal
Engineering Interns to support the Engineering Department.

Duties:
● Under direct supervision, exposure to municipal work within civil engineering, such as
surveying, design, maintenance, and construction of public rights of way, public utilities,
and stormwater management systems for various capital projects within the Village.
● Assists in maintaining daily project log, quantity documentation, and computing
operations in implementing capital construction projects.
● Assist in field inspections and gathering field data related to paving and repaving of
streets, replacement of sidewalks, and installation of water and storm utilities.
● Exposure to general office work, such as scanning, filing, and preparing letters. Perform
occasional office engineering work as required.
● This job is predominantly performed on active construction sites, in extreme weather,
and on uneven terrain.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of application,
have a valid driver’s license, have a GED or high school diploma, and have an interest in or
college major in Civil Engineering or Construction Management. Computer skills, including
Word and Excel, are required.

Schedule: This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week. The schedule is
approximately 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., to be determined by the Engineering Department. The
duration of the internship is approximately three (3) months. Must be available to work
occasional weekend and evening hours.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT DEPARTMENT
The Village of Downers Grove is currently accepting applications for one (1) Seasonal
Engineering Intern to support the Community Development Department.
Duties:
● Under the direct supervision of the Development Engineer, assist with residential and
commercial site development permit reviews, site inspections, erosion and sediment
control inspections.
● Respond to phone calls from residents and contractors.
● Perform office engineering work, including scanning and filing of plans/documents.
● Other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be at least 18 years old at the time of application,
have a valid driver’s license, have a GED or high school diploma, and have an interest or
college major in Civil Engineering or Construction Management. Computer skills, including
Word and Excel, are required. ArcGIS experience is preferred.

Schedule: This is a full-time position, working 40 hours per week. The schedule is
approximately 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., to be determined by the Community Development
Department. The duration of the internship is approximately three (3) months.
