Maintenance Technician Position Job Link

Position Summary:

Performs duties that include preventative maintenance, upkeep, repairs, and replacement of facilities equipment, machinery, electric components and circuitry, instrumentation, controls, buildings, and grounds. There are three tiers in the Maintenance Technician position. Tier I is the highest level and requires combined education, certification, and experience listed in the Qualifications section of the job description. Tier III is entry-level. This position has limited to no supervisory responsibilities. May be required to coordinate work activities on specific projects and/or repairs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Performs replacement and/or repairs to facilities, lift stations, fittings, various equipment and machinery.
• Performs duties required to upkeep and maintain District buildings and grounds.
• Completes physical and routine inspections of equipment, facilities and lift stations.
• Follows procedures to keep jobsites and environment safe for crew and makes recommendations for improvements.
• Assists in or performs snow removal.
• Operates district equipment that may include: End loader, Backhoe, Crane truck, Skid Steer, Sweeper truck, Vactor truck, Forklift, portable pumps, lawn equipment, hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
• Coordinates and records work on a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
• Tier I Equipment Maintenance Technician may supervise equipment repairs, rotation and system modifications.
• Tier I Equipment Maintenance Technician may train and guide Equipment Maintenance Technicians II and III on proper procedures for repairs and or maintenance of equipment.
• Maintains organization and cleanliness for assigned district vehicles, tools, and PPE.
• Assists personnel in other department as necessary or assigned.
• Must be willing to work overtime as needed, holidays, and weekends.
• Must be willing to work and perform On-Call Duties when necessary.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Preferred Education and/or Experience:

• Tier I- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and four to six years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Four years industrial maintenance or mechanical repair experience preferred.
• Tier II- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Two years industrial maintenance or mechanical repair experience preferred.
• Tier III- High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Industrial maintenance or mechanical repair experience preferred. Experience in the wastewater treatment or utilities industry.
• Methods, tools, and equipment used in general construction, sewer maintenance, and repair work.

Work Environment:

The employee frequently encounters wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, odorous fumes, airborne particles, and the risk of electrical shock. There is potential exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee may occasionally work at significant elevations and in adverse weather conditions, including extreme cold or heat. The noise level in the work environment may be loud. Compliance with training, safety protocols, and the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) are required to mitigate risks associated with these hazards.

Physical Requirements:

The employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; speak and/or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to work in confined spaces. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

• Must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License and be insurable by district standards. May be required to obtain CPR/First Aid Certification within the first six months of employment. A CDL license is preferred for Tier 1, Tier II, and Tier III.

Salary/Benefits:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with full benefits and mandatory participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a defined benefit retirement plan. Our comprehensive benefits package includes health, dental, vision, life, flexible spending, a 457 deferred compensation plan, paid time off, and tuition reimbursement. Pay incentive for having or attaining CDL Class A or Class B. The starting salary is negotiable and will be determined based on qualifications, experience, and professional achievements.

The salary range for this position is $26.44 to $36.59 (Grade: I, II, III).
