Maintenance Equipment Operator
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt (Eligible for Overtime)
Salary: $66,644 – $76,155 (subject to current Collective Bargaining Agreement)

About the Role
The Village of Glencoe is seeking a dedicated and skilled Maintenance Equipment Operator to join our Public Works team. This essential position plays a key role in maintaining and improving Village infrastructure, from streets and sewers to parkways and public spaces. As a hands-on operator, you’ll work outdoors in all weather conditions and respond to after-hours weather emergencies to keep our community safe and thriving.
Responsibilities at a Glance
As a Maintenance Equipment Operator, your daily work will make a visible impact across the Village. You will:
- Repair and maintain streets, curbs, and sidewalks
- Install, repair, and clean storm and sanitary sewer systems
- Rebuild manholes, catch basins, and valve vaults
- Trim, remove, and plant parkway trees
- Maintain and repair water mains, hydrants, valves, and services
- Perform water meter installation, reading, and maintenance
- Operate and maintain sanitary lift station facilities
- Handle snow removal including plowing, salting, and shoveling
- Conduct grounds and landscape maintenance
- Adhere to all safety policies and promptly report unsafe conditions or incidents
- Perform other duties as assigned
Who We’re Looking For
We are looking for someone who is not afraid to roll up their sleeves and contribute to the well-being of our community. The ideal candidate will possess:
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Less than one year of related work experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience)
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Valid Illinois driver’s license (passenger vehicle)
- CDL Class B with Air Brakes endorsement (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
Technical & Physical Requirements
- Knowledge of construction tools, equipment, and safety procedures
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions in English
- Competence in using radios, tablets, and computers
- Physically capable of heavy manual labor, including:Lifting up to 65 lbs regularly, up to 100 lbs occasionally
- Frequent walking, standing, lifting, and tool use

Reports to: Public Works General Superintendent and Supervisors
