JOB TITLE: Permit Engineer
DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS Review and process utility permit requests within the County right-of-way. Works with other staff within the Department to coordinate County projects and required utility relocations/modifications including reviewing and identifying utility conflicts. Work with utilities regarding facility relocation reimbursement agreements. Conducts field inspections for utility work within the County right-of-way including documenting the location of relocated utility facilities for upcoming or ongoing County projects. Documents violations or errors and contacts appropriate contractor, owner, or utility. Responds to permit related complaints. Confers with engineers on designs and reviews necessary permits for construction. Confers with contractors or permittees as required. Processes various permit documentation and updates database accordingly. May assist in processing oversize/overweight truck permitting. May assist in the broader range of reviews/inspections associated with private/public development permitting. This position will travel to the field as necessary to include both outdoor and indoor environments. This position requires regular, punctual, and predictable attendance. Perform other related duties as assigned or as directed.
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited College or University. Two or more years of highway design/construction experience preferred. Experience using computer hardware and software including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, email, survey software and hardware, etc. The use of CADD/GIS would also be preferred. Excellent customer services skills Ability to prioritize and multi-task several projects. Must possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois driver’s license. Registered as Engineer in Training in the State of Illinois or ability to obtain within six (6) months.

SALARY RANGE: $76,500 – $84,000/Year
