Village of Wilmette

The Village of Wilmette’s Community Development Department is seeking to fill the position of Deputy Community Development Director.

Starting Salary: $161,620 (DOQ)

General Responsibilities
Position works under the general direction of the Director of Community Development and serves as Acting Director as needed. Facilitates the review and approval of complex development projects through staff and Village Commissions. Provides technical advice and assistance to the Director of Community Development and various Boards and Commissions. Reviews commercial and multi-family plans for compliance with applicable codes, ordinances, and adopted plans.

This position functions as the Deputy Director and acts as Director in the Director’s absence. The Deputy Director provides leadership in staff management, long-range planning initiatives, public engagement, policy development, and process improvement for department services and projects.

Position Requirements
The successful candidate should have experience with urban planning, zoning, construction, real estate development, code enforcement and public administration. A master’s degree in Urban Planning, Public Administration, closely related field, or equivalent work and education experience. Required supervisory experience of five (5) years progressively more responsibility. American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or equivalate certification preferred.

Essential position requirements include the ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing, to interact with the general public in a courteous and professional manner, and the ability to prioritize, organize, and complete required duties timely and accurately. Candidate must be detail oriented, flexible, and a team player. The candidate will possess a working knowledge of web-based computer software programs, and should be proficient in Microsoft Office including (Outlook, SharePoint, Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint) as well as general office equipment.

Compensation and Benefits
The annual salary range for this position is Pay Grade R $139,264 TO $ 184,794.

The starting salary shall be based on the candidate’s qualifications and certifications. Selection Process
Candidates will undergo multiple interviews. The successful candidate will undergo a pre-employment physical to include drug and alcohol screening, reference checks, and a driver’s license records verification with the Secretary of State’s Office.
