Village of Tinley Park
The Village of Tinley Park is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Property & Evidence Custodian to oversee security and integrity of evidence rooms receiving organizing, preserving, securing, and preparing evidence for various labs. This position will handle evidence & property according to established procedures and shall determine appropriate and lawful disposition of property while keeping accurate records to maintain integrity and chain of custody of all property and evidence. Additional responsibilities include preparing evidence for court proceedings, testifying in court when subpoenaed, responding to information request from other departments and the public regarding receipt and return of evidence property and case dispositions, and ensuring proper retention of records.
An associate’s degree is preferred along with a minimum of one (1) to three (3) years of related experience with records management, evidence handling, customer service, and/or data processing is required. Law enforcement experience is highly preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office is required. Law Enforcement Agencies Data Systems (LEADS) with less than full access certified or must successfully complete within six months of hire. A valid Driver’s License is required.
The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, able to multi-task, and be familiar with police evidence and lawful procedural requirements. They must have demonstrated highest level of integrity, responsibility and reliability. Must be proficient in MicroSoft Office and able to navigate various computer systems all while being extremely organized and efficient in the handling of time sensitive tasks. They must be able to deal with highly sensitive information while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
This position shall generally be scheduled Monday – Friday from 8:00AM to 4:30PM subject to change based on operational needs. Must also have availability to support evidence room operations as needed outside normally scheduled work shifts.
Compensation & Benefits: $24.94 – $35.54 plus a generous benefit package including medical, dental, and vision benefits, employer-paid life insurance and other ancillary benefit options. Retirement benefits through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) are provided along with the option to participate in a 457(b) deferred compensation plan. In addition, paid holiday, vacation, personal, and sick days are provided.
