SchoolCare, NH is seeking a strategic, collaborative, and mission-driven leader to serve as its next Executive Director.
Founded in 1995 as the New Hampshire School Health Care Coalition, SchoolCare is a member-governed public-entity health risk pool that provides health benefit solutions to New Hampshire school districts and other eligible public employers. Created through a unique partnership among organizations representing both public-sector management and labor, SchoolCare has built a strong reputation for financial stewardship, stable contribution rates, and collaborative governance.
Headquartered in Manchester, New Hampshire, SchoolCare is led by a Board of Directors representing labor and management stakeholders and supported by a professional staff. SchoolCare also participates in the Association of Governmental Risk Pools (AGRiP), providing access to national expertise and industry best practices.
The Executive Director serves as the chief executive and strategic leader of SchoolCare and reports directly to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is responsible for the organization’s strategic direction, financial stewardship, operational leadership, and external representation.
This role requires a leader who understands the importance of collaborative governance and consensus building, and who can effectively balance the interests of employers, employees, and taxpayers while ensuring the long-term sustainability of the organization.
The Executive Director leads a staff of ten professionals and works closely with members, policymakers, industry partners, and vendors to support SchoolCare’s mission and strategic priorities.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and organizational direction in partnership with the Board of Directors.
- Ensure strong financial stewardship and long-term sustainability of the risk pool.
- Foster strong member relationships and engagement with participating public entities.
- Oversee organizational operations, staff leadership, and vendor relationships.
- Represent SchoolCare with policymakers, regulators, and industry partners.
- Support effective governance and transparent decision-making.
- Communicate complex health care and financial information clearly to diverse stakeholders.
Qualifications
Required
- Senior leadership experience in health benefits, insurance, risk pooling, public administration, or a related field.
- Experience working with or reporting to a governing board.
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing complex budgets or reserves.
- Proven ability to lead in multi-stakeholder or politically sensitive environments.
- Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in public administration, business administration, finance, accounting, or related field.
- Ten or more years of executive-level leadership experience.
Preferred
- Experience with public-entity risk pools or member-governed organizations.
- Familiarity with public-sector benefits programs.
- Experience working with both management and labor stakeholders.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
Compensation and Benefits
Salary Range: $175,000 – $265,000.
Anticipated Hiring Range: $195,000 – $245,000 depending on qualifications and experience.
