Village of Bloomingdale
The Village of Bloomingdale is seeking candidates for one (1) full-time Equipment Mechanic. This position is responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining all Village vehicles and equipment, as well as ordering and maintaining inventory of supplies and parts. Work is performed under the direction of the Equipment Maintenance Supervisor. The Equipment Mechanic supports the operations of the Public Works Department by ensuring all municipal vehicles and equipment are safe, functional, and properly maintained to serve the needs of the community.
The pay range for this position is $30.94 – $42.97 per hour. This position is full-time and non-exempt for overtime calculations. This position is eligible for the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150 and receives a comprehensive benefits package including paid time off, pension, and health, dental, and life insurance.
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
· Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on a wide range of vehicles and equipment; diagnoses issues, analyzes malfunctions, and determines appropriate repair methods.
· Inspects, repairs, rebuilds, and maintains Village equipment including cars, pickup trucks, dump trucks, street sweepers, bucket trucks, backhoes, front-end loaders, sewer jet trucks, skid steers, snowplows, generators, and pumps
· Performs welding and fabrication; operates diagnostic and testing equipment; completes electrical installation and repair work.
· Rebuilds hydraulic cylinders; fabricates and installs hydraulic hoses; performs basic hydraulic system plumbing.
· Maintains accurate records of all repairs and maintenance activities.
· Schedules vehicles and equipment for warranty and recall service.
· Assists with snow and ice removal operations.
· Maintains availability on call to respond to emergency situations.
The successful candidate must possess a high school diploma or GED supplemented by vocational/technical training in automotive or equipment mechanics, along with a minimum of three (3) years of related experience; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A valid Illinois driver’s license is required, along with a Class B CDL with tanker endorsement (or the ability to obtain within six (6) months). Refrigerant certification and ASE and/or EVT certifications are preferred or must be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire.
