Mr. Ferguson has over 30 years of experience in the information services field and previously Sam was the IT Director for the Village of Schaumburg, Illinois. The Village’s IT Department provides information technology and telecommunications services for the organization’s 600 employees.

Sam’s career achievements include establishing information technology departments for different municipalities bringing together “islands” of information into cohesive, customer service oriented departments. He has been responsible for several multi-million dollar system installations and upgrades and has been responsible for new enterprise Voice Over Internet Protocol (VOIP) telecommunications and a ERP systems.  Under his direction the Village of Schaumburg was recognized seven times as a Top Ten Digital City by the Center for Digital Government.

Mr. Ferguson has been very active in the Government Management Information Sciences organization (GMIS) at both the state and International levels.  He first became a GMIS member in 1991 where he became the Illinois President in 1996 and has served GMIS Illinois or GMIS International in one fashion or another for more than 16 years until his retirement.

Mr. Ferguson has instructed Masters level students in the Division of Public Administration on Information Technology and Management in Public Service Organizations at Northern Illinois University.  He was also the interim CIO for the City of Joliet and has consulted numerous municipalities on technology issue.

Mr. Ferguson holds a M.S. in Education Administration from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, IL, a B.A., with departmental honors, from Monmouth College, Monmouth, IL, and graduated from the U.S. Army Computer Science School, Indianapolis, IN.
