Brookhaven is one of Atlanta metro area’s more affluent suburbs, graced with historic homes and new developments. - The Human Resources Director is an integral part of the leadership team and reports directly to the Assistant City Manager/CFO. The Director who supervises one full-time employee, is responsible for risk management, managing all employee-related issues including compensation, benefits, discipline grievances and recruiting, working closely with other city departments. The Human Resources Director is a trusted colleague, a resource for all employees and is actively engaged in continuing the City’s collaborative, team-oriented organizational culture.
- The Human Resources Director works with employee committees and outside consultants to oversee and manage all employee benefits. Brookhaven belongs to the Georgia Risk Management Association which provides the City with risk management services. The Director also functions as the Head of the Safety Committee. The City recently established a Social Justice, Race and Equity Commission (SJREC) and the Human Resource Director oversees liaison activities with a sub-committee of this commission.
The City has a $63 million total budget, which includes a $30 million general fund budget. Brookhaven’s in-house departments include police, parks and recreation, community development, economic development, finance, human resources, parks and recreation, municipal courts, and information technology. Services such as public works, inspections and permitting are contracted out to third- party agencies, while fire and emergency services are provided by DeKalb County. The City has 170 full-time employees and a strong commitment to ethics and transparency.
- The City is home to Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), Emory University, and Oglethorpe University, a highly regarded private liberal arts college with an impressive Museum of Art. Brookhaven is also home to beautiful parks, including the 135-acre Murphy Candler Parkland Blackburn Park which plays host to a vibrant community celebration of the arrival of springtime.
Candidates must be experienced human resources leaders with a commitment to excellence in customer service, employee relations and development, and integrity. They must also possess a management and leadership style that reflects collaboration, teambuilding, accessibility, and a calm, professional demeanor. Experience in contract management and recruitment and selection, especially for the police, parks and recreation departments is highly valued. Candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in Public or Human Resource Administration, Business Management or related field, master’s degree/SPHR or similar certification is preferred. The position also requires seven (7) years or more of progressively responsible human resources management experience, or equivalent education, and/or experience.
Starting salary range is $100,000-140,000 DOQ plus eligibility for an annual performance bonus.
