This position is responsible for the timely processing of building permits and supporting the activities of the Community Development department staff.
Process and issue building permits (electrical, plumbing, grading, and other related permits). Calculates fees, monitor approval of plans by other regulatory agencies.
Respond to telephone and in-person inquiries, providing information and customer assistance regarding permits, permit processes, building codes, and other related ordinances and laws.
Input information into the Village’s computer software system (Munis) to track and process permits.
Assist department staff by performing code and records research and compiling data.
Respond to Freedom of Information Requests (FOIA) by research and collecting files and records.
Prepare and process letters, forms, documents, and other written communication.
Perform records research in order to document project history compliance; coordinate permit processes with outside agencies.
Organize department files and other information; establish and maintain electronic and paper filing systems, control records, and indexes using moderate independent judgment. Purge and organize files for scanning.
Set up, maintain and modify databases and spreadsheets for various purposes
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
High school diploma or GED equivalent with specialized coursework in general office practices such as keyboarding and data processing. Thorough knowledge of business English, spelling and punctuation.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office software required; knowledge of Munis software system a plus. Ability to learn and successfully use a variety of software products.
Three (3) years’ experience as a permitting clerk/technician or any equivalent combination of training and experience.
Knowledge of construction plans, Uniform Building Codes, construction terminology, construction practices, local agency permit processing regulations and procedures, computer operations, architectural and engineering scales, and basic math.
Good organization, follow-through and time management skills, excellent attention to detail, ability to multi-task, ability to proactively troubleshoot, problem solve, and make sound judgments.
Must hold a valid Illinois Driver’s License.
Bilingual skills are desirable.

The Village provides employees with an excellent benefit package, including health and life insurance, IMRF pension, vacation time, paid holidays and sick days. The salary range is $51,646 – $74,880 depending on qualifications.
