The City of Aurora has opened application and testing for the position of Fire Cadet to establish an eligibility list.

Under direct supervision, the Fire Cadet will serve as a trainee to the position of Fire Private. The Fire Cadet will perform routine station assignments to obtain a working knowledge of fire functions. Duties include but are not limited to: Assisting with administrative tasks; Station cleaning and maintenance; Answering and directing phone calls and walk-in visitors; Assisting with station tours; Participating in ride-alongs; Moving vehicles for maintenance and logistics; Successfully progressing through educational programs (EMT-B, Paramedic); Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be between 17 to 20 years of age; Anyone 21 years of age or older will not qualify
  • Must have attained at least senior class standing in high school on the date of test
  • Must have graduated from an accredited high school, attained a GED, or a Home School certification through the Regional Superintendent of Schools at time of hire
  • Must have a minimum high school grade point average of 2.0 on a scale of 4.0 or equivalent (Copy of unofficial high school/GED/home school transcript required to be uploaded at time of application)
  • Must possess a Valid State of Illinois Class D driver’s license (Copy required to be uploaded at time of application)
  • Must be a United States citizen at time of hire
  • Must be able to successfully pass a polygraph, psychological exam, interview, background check, physical examination, and drug screen
  • Must be able to work up to 20 hours per week between 8 am – 4 pm, Monday – Friday

  2. Applicants must pass the job simulation test. The exam consists of questions related to human relations, mechanical ability, math, and reading. Visit: www.nationaltestingnetwork.com to register and select testing location.
    • There is a non-refundable $65 fee to schedule the exam.

Downer Pl Aurora, IL 60507 (Please allow 5 business days for processing).
    • If you are part of the Aurora Fire Department Explorer Post and/or attend an Aurora High School, you are eligible to receive a voucher from Human Resources to cover the cost of the exam. We will use your transcript and/or the Explorer Post roster to verify eligibility. Please be sure to receive your voucher PRIOR to signing up for an exam as we will not be providing reimbursements after signing up for the exam.

To be considered, both the test and online application (including required documents) must be fully completed by November 15th, 2024.
