The City of Aurora is accepting applications for the position of Electrician in the Public Works Department.
Under general supervision of the Electrical Supervisor, the Electrician performs journeyman level electrical work in the installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and fixtures for the City of Aurora. Duties of the position include but are not limited to: Responsible for lighting equipment including the replacement of burned out lamps, defective wiring, detectors, replaces contacts, augurs, springs, and all electrical parts; Responsible for electrical systems and equipment including traffic signals, Civil Defense equipment, monitoring and transmitting equipment, and chlorinating and analyzing equipment; Responsible for maintenance of well houses and pumping stations; Assist in making inspections of new and existing wiring and electrical installations; Other related duties as assigned.
This position requires completion of a high school diploma or GED preferably supplemented by completion of additional coursework in electronics, electricity, and mechanics. Must have two (2) years’ experience as a journeyman level Electrician or equivalent (a minimum total of six years with the last two years at a comparable skill level). Requires possession of a valid driver’s license at time of application and must be able to obtain an Illinois Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with air brake endorsement at the earliest opportunity. Requires the ability to respond to emergency calls within 30 minutes.
Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a DOT physical, drug screen, and background check.
This is a full-time, union position (IBEW). Starting hourly pay is $44.76/hr, depending on qualifications. Newly hired Electricians who have completed a five (5) year IBEW apprenticeship program and are currently members of IBEW shall start at $48.43/hr, after 6 months $49.42/hr, after 1 year $50.41/hr, and annual increases thereafter.
