The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Engineering Technician III in the Engineering Division.
The Engineering Technician III performs skilled sub-professional engineering work as chief of a field party engaged in making surveys for construction projects. Also acts as a construction inspector and as a skilled draftsman performing a wide variety of technical assignments. Responsible for conducting a location, construction, and final survey for projects such as streets, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, water mains, curbs and gutters and parking lots.
The duties of the position include but are not limited to: Supervise staking of new lines and elevations for grades, bridges, and drainage structures as well as check computations of distances and elevations; Perform complex design, layout and drafting of plans, profiles and cross sections on new streets, street improvements and widening, and sewers and water mains; Make quantity calculations and cost estimates of projects; Conduct preliminary surveys, perform survey traverses, perform project reconnaissance, keep notes on topography, determine factors affecting proposed locations, plot field data on plans, and determine survey center line; Prepare drawings and sketches of site improvements; Design streets and utility projects under the immediate supervision of a Civil Engineer; Inspect subdivisions and commercial site plans for acceptance of public improvements and make corrections; Other duties as assigned.
This position requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. and the possession of a valid Illinois Driver’s License. Must have considerable experience in surveying, drafting, or sub-professional engineering work. College engineering coursework and/or any equivalent combination of experience and training may be considered a substitute for considerable experience.
Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a physical exam, drug screen, and background check.
This is a full-time, union position. Beginning salary is $34.72/hour, after 6 months $35.50/hour, after 1 year $36.26/hour, and annual increases thereafter. Excellent benefit package including IMRF and options for medical, dental, and vision coverage.
