The City of Aurora is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Executive Secretary in the Law Department.

Under general supervision, the Executive Secretary in the Law Department performs highly responsible and confidential secretarial duties for the Corporation Counsel and Assistant Corporation Counsel; Provides both technical and administrative support.

The duties of this position include but are not limited to: Act as receptionist, receiving visitors and screening callers and incoming mail and email correspondence; Provide general information in response to internal and external inquiries; Take dictation of letters, complaints, summons’, ordinances, and other legal forms; Schedule court appearances for trial or motion and arrange for the attendance of witnesses; Prepare correspondence, interoffice forms, agendas, purchase or­ders, documents and related papers; File court documents electronically; Prepare requisitions for the purchase of supplies and equipment; Prepare complaints and summonses in small claims and ordinance viola­tion cases; Assist in answering department Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and subpoena requests; Other duties as assigned.

This position requires a high school diploma or GED; Associate’s Degree is preferred.  This position also requires a minimum of three (3) years’ progressively responsible clerical or secretarial experience. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a physical, drug screen, and background check.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position. Starting hourly pay is $28.47/hr, depending on experience and qualifications.
