The City of Aurora is accepting applications for the position of GIS Project Assistant in the Information Technology Department.

Under the direction of the GIS Manager, the GIS Project Assistant performs data creation, updates, and user support in the Land/Parcel Management (LX) modules, the ESRI ArcGIS (Geographical Information System) suite of applications, and the interface between these two systems.

Duties of this position include but are not limited to: Collect and verify data from a variety of different sources; Maintain LX and GIS information databases; Perform queries and manipulate data within the databases; Respond to requests from users on various land/parcel modules and systems; Work with user departments to design and implement related data and applications; Serve as an IT liaison and representative to various user groups; Provide support during drone missions as a visual observer; Other related duties as assigned.

This position requires an associate degree in Geographical Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Computer Aided Design, Planning, Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and a minimum of one (1) year of related work experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, preferably in a municipality. Knowledge of ERP Land/Parcel Management Modules and/or the ESRI ArcView GIS system, Microsoft Access and SQL Server databases, and skills in the interrelated use of database, mapping, drafting, surveying, and Geographic Information System software applications is preferred. Must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license.

Must successfully pass pre-hire requirements including but not limited to a physical, drug screen, and background check.

This is a full-time, union represented position. Starting hourly pay is $29.00/hr., depending on experience and qualifications.
