Perform a variety of tasks associated with the maintenance, operation, and repair of the City’s wastewater facilities and lift stations.
Duties include snow removal for the City during the winter months and other tasks as assigned within the Public Works Department. Wastewater tasks may include plant checks, troubleshooting/repair of equipment, record keeping, sampling, lab analysis, preparing regulatory reports, handling chemicals and ordering equipment/ supplies.
The successful candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by additional public works training or experience in the maintenance, operations and repair of streets, water and wastewater facilities, public water distribution systems, and sewer collection systems.
Familiarity with personal computers (PC’s) and SCADA systems (PC and iPad applications) is strongly desired. Position requires entering data into spreadsheets, utilizing email, and viewing GIS maps.
Qualified applicants should demonstrate the ability to multi-task and work in fast-paced environment. Applicant must exercise good judgment, effectively solve problems, have excellent organizational and time management skills and be detail oriented.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Weekend and/or night hours are required for scheduled and emergency work, including snow/ice control removal activities. Must be able to be scheduled for on-call duties (after-hours call-backs.)
Applicant must possess, or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date, a valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A or B driver’s license with No Restrictions (Full Air Brakes). The City will provide the training necessary to obtain if needed. In addition, candidates must have a Class #4 IEPA Wastewater Operators Certification or ability to obtain certification within 16 months of hire.
The starting hourly rate ranges from $27.16 to $29.67 depending on qualifications along with an excellent benefit package including health, dental and life insurance effective on your first day of employment, participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension, 10 paid holidays, and vacation and sick hours that are earned on a monthly basis.
