This position assists with the implementation of a variety of capital and operational projects related to City facilities; utilizes computer systems for various applications; reviews architectural drawings and various exhibits; maintains project record information and other department file management records. This position is also responsible for managing special projects consisting of small capital projects and may serve as site contact and city representative throughout all the phases of design and construction projects. Snow removal is a requirement of this position.
Duties include assisting with the coordination of City facility’s projects, both renovation and new construction from the initiation stage through planning, design, and construction; planning and coordinating all associated work activities for projects or programs from year to year related to City facility operations and maintenance under management direction; keeping various records of work performed; preparing various regulatory agency reports; and conducting site visits and reviews with engineers, consultants, and contractors.
This position also performs various semi-skilled building maintenance, repairs, and construction tasks including HVAC, painting, plumbing, masonry and electrical work and monitors contracts with outside vendors to ensure work is completed properly and cost effectively. The nature of the work performed requires a professional manner in all dealings with the public and City and department staff.
The successful candidate must possess a high school diploma or equivalent supplemented by specialized or technical training or shop courses along with a working knowledge of mechanical equipment used in construction and maintenance of public facilities, including carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical, along with prior experience with operating basic hand tools and equipment.
Qualified applicants should also be able to demonstrate the ability to effectively solve problems and exercise good judgment with outstanding organizational and time management skills, and also be detail oriented with multi-tasking capabilities in a fast paced environment.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 am to 3:00 pm. Some weekend or night hours may be required, as circumstances dictate for building maintenance and snow/ice control activities. Must be willing and able to be on-call and respond to after-hours callbacks and emergency situations as necessary.
Applicant must possess, or have the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire date, a valid Class A or B Illinois Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with no restrictions (full air brakes). The City will provide the training necessary to obtain if needed. Applicant must also possess a Building Operator Certification Level 2 or ability to obtain within 12 months.
This position is part of a collective bargaining unit and the salary range is $36.73 to $47.01, depending on qualifications and certifications.
