About the Position:

The City of Darien is accepting applications for the position of a Water Plant Operator-Class C within the Public Works Department. As part of a dedicated team, the Plant Operator will monitor water quality to ensure compliance with the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency Act for drinking water. The Operator will perform inspections and maintenance of pump stations, water tanks. The Pump Operator will also perform water quality testing and sampling. The ability to take accurate readings, maintain records, and exercise judgment to maintain a safe, clean, and adequate water supply is required.

The Operator will carry a City cellphone and must be able to respond to emergency call outs on a 24-hour basis. Ability to adhere to a 30-minute response time and make judgments about the City’s response is required. The Pump Operator will work a non-traditional work schedule with a standard number of work hours including limited weekends. The Operator will also have the ability and knowledge to control the City’s SCADA System. The Operator will also be the 2nd Operator in Charge on rotating weekends and vacation leaves. Candidates will also perform snow and ice removal as needed along with water department duties.

The minimum starting salary for this position is $82,00-$87,000 and includes a diverse and competitive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, paid vacation, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan.
Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of experience in basic water operations. A valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class B. Candidates shall also possess and maintain an I.E.P.A. Class C Water Operator License.
