The City of DeKalb is looking to fill a Skilled Maintenance position focusing on traffic signals. installation, construction, repair and maintenance of traffic signals and traffic signal equipment. This position assumes an increased level of responsibility, complexity of duties assigned, independence of action taken and guidance of other staff. This position will respond to call outs for emergency situations, assist with minor facility maintenance and repair, and assist the Utility Division as needed.

The Skilled Maintenance- Traffic Signals position is assigned to the Street Superintendent of the Public Works Department. This is a full-time position represented under AFSCME and will work 40 hours per week with periodic overtime. This position will include evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency call outs as necessary.

This position requires:
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in the electrical field. Prior experience working for a municipality or utility company preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent and supplementary education or technical training within the field required.
• Journeyman Electrician license and/or IMSA Signal Technician certification preferred.
• A valid driver’s license, and a CDL or ability to obtain a CDL within an agreed upon timeframe (typically at 6 months of hire).

The starting wage will be based upon the AFSCME 2023 Current Wage Schedule which is between $29.048 – 41.432 per hour. Step placement will be based upon the candidates’ qualifications and skill set.
