Join Our Team as a Skilled Maintenance – Electrical Professional!
The City of DeKalb, Illinois is seeking a Skilled Maintenance – Electrical professional to support the operation and maintenance of our municipal electrical systems and assist with traffic signal equipment. This is a dynamic role with increasing responsibility, technical complexity, and opportunities to guide and support other staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Installs, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical and lighting systems in City facilities.
- Maintains and inspects conduit and duct systems, power circuits, generators, breaker panels, and more.
- Performs preventative maintenance on transformers, switches, and lighting fixtures.
- Installs interior and exterior wiring, including computer and equipment installations.
- Assist with the installation, repair and maintenance of traffic signal equipment.
- Operates trucks up to 55,000 gross vehicle weight for snow plowing, leaf pickup, and material hauling.
- Responds call outs for scheduled rotations and emergency calls for repairs and weather-related incidents.
What We’re Looking For:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required; vocational or technical training preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years in the electrical field; willingness to learn traffic signal systems.
- Valid driver’s license required. CDL Class B (Illinois) permit within 60 days of hire; full license within 6 months.
- Ability to obtain IMSA Work Zone Safety and Traffic Signal I certifications.
- Journeyman Electrician certification preferred.

The Skilled Maintenance – Electrical position is a union position represented under AFSCME. The AFSCME 2026 Wage Schedule for the position is between $31.894 – $45.492 per hour.
