Join Our Team as a Full-Time Telecommunicator!

Looking for a communications center where you can build strong connections with officers and firefighters? If so, we may be the perfect fit for you! Our Telecommunicators play a vital role in public safety and are based in the DeKalb Police Department.

What You’ll Do

As a Telecommunicator, you will:
• Receive, prioritize and respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for police, fire and EMS
• Handle calls from multiple sources including an NG9-1-1 system, text-to-911, video-to-911, video relay services, social media, and alarm systems.
• Operate a multi-channel radio console with multiple computer terminals to dispatch and manage calls for service.
• Accurately enter and update information in a computer-aided dispatch system following established procedures.

No Experience? No problem!

We offer a comprehensive training program to prepare you for success.

Experienced? Great!

  • Your experience will be considered for placement within our pay range.
    Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  •  Ability to type 35 words per minute.
  •  Valid driver’s license
  • Willingness to obtain required certifications, including:
    o LEADS 3.0 Full Access (within 30 days)
    o Illinois State Police Telecommunicator Sexual Assault/Abuse Training (within 30 days)
    o 40-hour PowerPhone Public Safety Dispatch Course (during training)
    o CPR/AED Certification (within agreed timeframe)
    o Illinois Emergency Medical Dispatcher License (before training completion)
  •  Prior experience is a plus—but we’re happy to train the right candidate!

Salary & Benefits:

  • Starting pay rate with no experience: $57,033. Lateral candidates prior experience will be reviewed for placement within the salary range.
