GENERAL PURPOSE
Under the general direction of the Director of Cultural Affairs & Special Events or designee, the Technical/AV Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing all audio-visual and technical aspects of city-sponsored events, meetings, and theater productions. This role ensures high-quality technical support for concerts, festivals, ceremonies, community programs, theatrical performances, and official City meetings, including the setup, monitoring, troubleshooting, recording, and live streaming of audio-visual systems and platforms, while maintaining safety standards, operational efficiency, and reliable public access to City programming. The position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed to support scheduled events and productions.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provide AV and technical support for city events at designated locations, including concerts, festivals, ceremonies, and community programs.
· Oversee technical direction for theater productions at Bicentennial Park Theatre, including lighting, sound, rigging, stage management, and compliance with safety protocols.
· Schedule, supervise, and coordinate technical staff, crew members, and volunteers to meet production and event requirements.
· Develop and implement technical workflows for events and productions, including equipment setup, staging, and load-in/load-out processes.
· Maintain and troubleshoot AV equipment, ensuring optimal performance and timely repairs.
· Collaborate with event organizers, performers, and city departments to meet technical needs and deliver exceptional experiences.
· Ensure compliance with city safety regulations, fire codes, and industry standards for technical operations.
· Manage technical budgets, inventory, and procurement of AV and stage equipment.
· Ensure City Council meetings are properly streamed and recorded, including setup, monitoring, and troubleshooting of live streaming platforms and audio-visual systems.
· Provide technical support for hybrid or virtual meeting formats as needed.
· Support the Communications division with AV needs for press conferences, media events, and digital content production.
· Assist with special events and citywide initiatives.
· Serve as the primary contact and liaison for Joliet Community Television (JCTV).
· Perform related duties as assigned.

· Proficiency in sound, lighting, and stage equipment operation.

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, city officials, labor unions and the general public.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Education: Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Technical Theater, Audio-Visual Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
· Experience: Minimum 3–5 years in AV management, technical theater, or event production.
· An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to provide the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the essential functions of the job will be considered.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid Class D driver’s license.
TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Personal computer including office suite, design and publishing applications, iPad, smart phone, calculator, telephone, and any other tools of the trade that may come into common use or be necessary to perform needed tasks.

Work in theatrical and technical spaces, which may involve heights, confined areas, and loud noise levels.
