City of Marengo

The City of Marengo (pop. 7,568), a community located in southwest McHenry County, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Director of Public Works.  This is a full-time, salaried position and involves supervision of 9-12 employees. The starting salary is $110,000 +/- DOQ.

The City may also consider a qualified retired Director of Public Works seeking a part-time arrangement.

The Director is responsible for the administration of all divisions within the City’s Public Works Department, including water and sanitary utility systems, streets, and mechanic. Duties also include implementation of the City’s Capital Improvement Program, procurement, and budget preparation/implementation.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s Degree in civil engineering or public administration, or related field, and five years of municipal supervisory experience. Requires knowledge and comprehension of municipal public works operations, and state and federal regulations applicable thereto; knowledge, comprehension and experience with sanitary sewer collection and treatment, water treatment, and distribution. An individual needs to have excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well with others, and promote team environments.
