Job Description
The City of Naperville’s Fire Department is seeking a full-time Medical Revenue Specialist to perform a variety of clerical and customer service duties related to ambulance billing and other general Fire Department billing. As part of the Fire Administration team, this position will also perform general clerical, administrative, and customer service tasks assisting both internal and external customers. This is a full-time, civilian (non-sworn) position that works Monday – Friday in the Fire Administration Building and will report to the Division Chief of EMS.
Duties
The Medical Revenue Specialist will review, audit and correct medical transport bills from our third-party billing company to ensure proper coding and billing of services and serve as liaison between the Naperville Fire Department and the third-party billing company, Naperville customers utilizing ambulance transport services, and the City’s Finance and Legal departments. The Medical Revenue Specialist will follow up with Medicare, Medicaid, primary and secondary insurance companies, and private payers to ensure accuracy, and will also be responsible for staying compliant with Medicare law. This position will also process and track billing for various Fire Department services (such as EMS, Fire Recovery, non-SECA special events, Illinois Tollway, etc.). The position will assist the public regarding inquiries made to the Fire Department (via telephone, email, and in-person) and will perform a variety of clerical and administrative duties for the Chief Officers and Fire Department.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, a high school diploma or GED is required along with 1-2 years of relevant experience in ambulance or medical billing or closely related field. An Associates degree and Medical Coder and Biller Certification (or similar certification) is preferred. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail are essential in this position. Qualified candidates must also have strong computer skills including Microsoft Office applications as well as strong written and verbal communications skills, customer service skills, and problem-solving skills. Highly qualified candidates will have knowledge of basic medical coding, HIPAA regulations, and Medicare, Medicaid and insurance billing procedures.
