Join the City of Plano, Illinois, as we seek dynamic candidates for the role of Superintendent of Wastewater. This exciting position is open for the first time in twenty-five (25) years as the current Superintendent, a thirty-four (34) year veteran with the City of Plano, is planning his retirement in early 2025. This Department Head position will oversee, operate and maintain the City of Plano’s stormwater and wastewater collection systems, sanitary sewer lift stations and treatment facilities in a safe, clean and efficient operating manner, while maintaining State and Federal guidelines. The City of Plano is a growing community with a 2020 census population of 11,847, located approximately 50 miles southwest of Chicago in the northwest corner of Kendall County.
Primary responsibilities of the Superintendent of Wastewater include:
Operations – Ensure stormwater and wastewater collection systems, sanitary sewer lift stations and treatment facilities continue to provide optimum health and safety for customers and the community)
Budget – Contribute, create and control the annual departmental financial budget;
Capital & Supplies – Guide capital facility planning and manage programs for continual rehabilitation, renewal and improvement for the inventory of buried and discernable infrastructure;
Administration – Ensure adjustments made within the stormwater and wastewater collection systems, sanitary sewer lift stations and treatment facilities will promote the cost effective, efficient running of the processes;
Regulatory – Ensure and maintain positive working relations with regulatory and local government agencies who monitor stormwater and wastewater collection systems, treatment facilities and discharges from treatment facilities; and
Supervisory – Coach, mentor, and manage performance of department personnel and other subordinates by scheduling and directing and assigning work.
The Superintendent of Wastewater is selected by the City Administrator and hired after the City Council confirms the recommendation at a public meeting. After hiring, the Superintendent of Wastewater reports to the City Administrator. The Department has a budget of just over $2M. Salary range is from $94,500 – $124,000 +/- and is dependent upon the applicant’s qualifications and experience.
