The College of Lake County is a public, comprehensive community college serving northeastern Illinois, comprised of 11,853 of students and 1,637 of faculty and staff. CLC, located in Lake County; a region that includes a rich diversity and a number of flourishing communities in the northern suburbs of Chicago.

The College of Lake County Public Safety Department was formed in the mid-1970s and in 2005 was reclassified as the College of Lake County Police Department. In 2017, renovations were completed on state-of-the-art police building at the Grayslake Campus. Accreditations and memberships include:

  • First fully-sworn U.S. community college police department to receive international accreditation through International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administration (IACLEA)
  • First sworn community college police department to receive dual accreditation through IACLEA and ILEAP (Illinois Law Enforcement Accreditation Program), making them the most-accredited community college police department in the nation
  • Active membership and participation in multi-jurisdictional units including Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, Lake County Emergency Management Assistant Team, Lake County Chiefs of Police Association, Lake County Training Committee, and Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System

The department is comprised of nineteen (19) sworn full-time officers and twelve (12) civilian employees. Police Officers, Community Service Officers and Dispatchers are represented by the Fraternal Order of Police. Two functioning telecommunications positions provide 24/7 communications and monitor 400 security cameras throughout the three campus locations: Grayslake, Lakeshore (Waukegan) and Southlake (Vernon Hills). The department has a budget of $2,183,715.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement or criminal justice related field
  • Currently certified as a peace officer by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board, or able to become certified within six (6) months
  • Ten (10) years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience that includes five (5) years command experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the requisite knowledge skills and abilities

Desired Qualifications:

  • Bilingual (Spanish)
  • Community college or other campus law enforcement
  • Master’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field

Salary: $102,100 to $114,650 depending on qualifications with excellent benefits.
