Salary: $70,000.00 – $74,000.00 Annually

Hours: Monday – Friday 8:00a.m. – 4:30p.m.

We are pleased to offer a job opportunity to work as a Senior Engineering Technician within the DuPage County Public Works department.

Responsibilities include:

  • Reviews engineering drawings, plans and specifications for construction or revision to land or physical characteristics of land owned or controlled by the County
  • Applies knowledge of standards to requests
  • Inspects job sites and contractor’s work to ensure standards and specifications, lines, grades and traffic control are satisfied
  • Confers with engineers, developers, consulting engineers, architects and contractors
  • Identifies unacceptable features and obtains corrections
  • Obtains plans and agreements to meet standards
  • Issues necessary permits for construction
  • Conducts field inspections and performs GPS surveys of utility assets
  • Reviews and submits plans and revisions for approval by senior engineers
  • Corresponds with developers and others regarding complaints and required corrections
  • Updates utility maps and performs utility asset management processes
  • Inspects revised work for conformity
  • Provides technical assistance where applicable
  • Inspects and documents emergency utility repairs made by municipal departments
  • Logs in new files and updates computer inventory of permit files, construction drawings, and other documents
  • Provides guidance and shares knowledge with other Engineering Staff regarding policy and procedural questions
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor or department management

Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience:

  • Completion of two college level courses in drafting or surveying, geological science, or related field
  • One to three years of experience in sub-professional engineering, construction or utilities work
  • Must possess and maintain in good standing, a valid Illinois driver’s license

 

The preferred candidate will have:

  • Previous experience with Accela or similar permitting software
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS platform and apps
  • Previous experience working with a municipal or public utility
  • Previous experience working in a regulatory environment
  • Knowledge of water and wastewater systems processes
