We are pleased to offer the opportunity to work as a Transportation Planning Analyst within DuPage County’s Division of Transportation. This position will be under general supervision to perform work in professional transportation planning, and analytics involving highways, transit, trails and non-motorized systems.
Responsibilities Include:
- Works with section leadership on a wide variety of planning projects and/or transportation studies
- Reviews and assists with the technical aspects of transportation planning projects and programs
- Departmental lead in the maintenance of the Geographic Information System (GIS); contributes to the ongoing development and maintenance of the DOT’s GIS asset base
- Conducts asset inventory and field studies, and interprets plans to supplement GIS
- Assists Senior Planner in ADA system improvement and compliance tracking
- Provides support to County’s non-motorized transportation programs, initiatives, accessibility, coordination and outreach along the Illinois Prairie Path and Great Western Trail path systems
- Provides support to Phase I Engineering, feasibility studies, safety data analysis, and grant programs and/or applications
- Assists in the development of long-range and short-range transportation plans and programs for the County
- Coordinates with staff and assists in the preparation and analysis of comprehensive and strategic plans for the DOT
- Communicates regularly with staff and outside agencies to support stakeholder engagement
- Conducts and reviews transportation studies, traffic studies, traffic impact assessments, and other project related reports
- Analysis of big data including safety data, travel data, transit ridership, and land use information.
Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience:
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Transportation Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or Geospatial Sciences, or a related field
- One (1) year of experience in planning work, GIS or related experience
- Must possess and maintain in good standing a valid Illinois driver’s license
The preferred candidate will:
- Have a Master’s Degree in an area of study listed above
- Have a GIS Certificate

The work will occur in an office and field environment. The field work environment for this position regularly includes working in various outside weather conditions, near traffic, power lines, wetlands and on uneven or challenging terrain. When performing the duties and responsibilities in the field, this position may be exposed to noxious plants, travel, remote locations and extensive walking.
