Automation Controls Specialist

The Fox River Water Reclamation District (FRWRD) is seeking a qualified employee for the non-exempt full-time position of Automation Controls Specialist. FRWRD owns and operates three Wastewater Treatment Facilities in the City of Elgin, IL, with Administration Offices located in the Village of South Elgin, IL. This position works primarily in the wastewater treatment plant but also at remote FRWRD sites.

The Automation Controls Specialist position plays a critical role in ensuring the efficient operation and maintenance of control systems and instrumentation within the Water Reclamation District. The ACS position involves proficiency in programming logic, along with hands-on work in the field, troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining instrumentation and equipment related to the control and monitoring of water treatment processes. The regularly scheduled hours of this position will be 7am-3pm, Monday- Friday and must be willing to work overtime, holidays, and weekends as needed.

An associates degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, or a related field is preferred, a bachelor’s degree is a plus (equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable). Proven experience as an Automation Control Specialist or a similar job title/description is required (equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered). The candidate must be familiar with PLC/OIT/HMI, SCADA systems, instrumentation and other control systems. The candidate must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. This position requires flexibility to work during emergencies and irregular hours, an ability to lift and carry heavy equipment up to 50 pounds, a valid Illinois driver’s license, and the ability to be insured.

Position Responsibilities:

· Provides daily support to operation and maintenance personnel in resolving high priority control issues.

· Conduct routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs on instrumentation, control devices, PLC’s, and meters.

· Proficiency in PLC programming, HMI programming, Ethernet network configuration, PID loop tuning, and motor and drive configuration and troubleshooting.

· Ability to read and understand electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and drawings (experience with AutoCAD preferred).

· Calibrate and troubleshoot sensors, transmitters, analyzers, and other process control instruments.

· Assist with modifications and adjustments to Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems (FactoryTalk experience preferred).

· Respond promptly to alarms and alerts, taking corrective actions as necessary.

· Participate in emergency response activities related to instrumentation and control systems.

· Collaborate with the emergency response team to address critical issues promptly.

· Assist in the installation, commissioning, and decommissioning of new control systems and instrumentation equipment.

· Ensure compliance with relevant standards and specifications during installation processes.

· Performs work in control panels, MCCs, and switchgear where voltages up to 480VAC are present and follows all arc flash safety standards.

· Uses CMMS to keep all work orders, work requests, and parts inventories updated.

This is a full-time non-exempt position. Pay range is $33.00 to $46.20 per hour depending on qualifications.
