As an Accountant the Lake County Finance Department, you will be responsible for conducting analysis and accounting research, assisting with the audit, performing reconciliations and assuring compliance with Lake County Policies and Procedures. Using your quantitative skills and accounting knowledge, you will document transactions, summarize financial status, reconcile discrepancies and prepare financial reports.
Essential Functions

Performs accounting functions of the County in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Reviews current year’s financial performance against historical performance and current year budget and investigates variances.

Updates monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting checklists, and ensures timely completion.

Prepares journal entries to General Ledger accounts as well as performing accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.

Responsible for general accounting functions and other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Education Required

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field.

Three (2) to eight (8) years of related experience in accounting and/or finance.

Comprehensive knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and their application to fund accounting transactions.

Comprehensive knowledge of financial office procedures and practices, including relevant internal controls.

Familiarity with and ability to quickly learn financial software applications.
-
Ability to interpret accounting reports and records and to analyze accounting data for control and reporting purposes.

Ability to utilize specialized spreadsheets, word processing, financial management, and database software applications programs.

Ability to maintain and balance a variety of financial records, ledgers, and accounts.

Ability to plan and organize work to meet schedules and deadlines.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with assigned supervisors, and other County employees.

Ability to communicate effectively with others, both orally and in writing, using both technical and non-technical language.

Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written policies, procedures, and instructions.

Ability to prepare and present accurate and reliable reports.

Ability and willingness to quickly learn and use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology.

Experience with Oracle is preferred, although not required.

Experience in Workday is preferred, although not required.

Experience implementing a new ERP is a plus.
Physical Requirements:
Requires mainly office work, involving standing or walking some of the time, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis, and high dexterity in operating office equipment, including a keyboard, copier, etc.
