Looking for the right individual for a Community Information position in the Health dept.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Comnmuity Information individual manages all Department communications; develops and oversees the strategic communications plan, provides strategic communications for the Department including media and community relations through the writing, reviewing and editing of news articles, social media content and website oversight. Serves as the Department’s Public Information Officer when responding to public health emergencies.

Hours: 37.5 hours per week and on call evening and weekends.

Salary: $59,066 – $64,973 +/-

Job Functions:

Acts as the official spokesperson for the Department.
Coordinates all media communications and contacts, facilitates and conducts interviews, writes news releases, maintains website aesthetics and the release of Department information.
Develops marketing campaigns and manages funding specific to Department communications.
Reviews documents and assists staff in preparing news stories, interviews, social media messages, campaigns and displays.
Develops communication plans for Department communication grant deliverables.
Coaches subject matter experts to be media ready.
Collaborates and contributes to individual, team, and Departmental quality improvement and evaluation activities.
Assists in the promotion of Department events and coordinates events for the Public Health Administrator as requested.
Serves as the FOIA Coordinator.
Design and develop general content for the Department.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with courses in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or public health.
Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in web design and social media.

Other requirements:

All Health Department staff are required to be up to date on the Covid vaccination series as determined by the CDC, including all primary series doses and boosters, as a term and condition of employment with the Department. In addition, proof of all vaccines are mandatory for employment with the Health Dept., including the flu vaccine.
