The McHenry County Division of Transportation seeks a qualified candidate for their next Transportation Planning Manager.  The ideal candidate for this role oversees all transportation planning activities for the McHenry County Division of Transportation.

Salary Range: $73,540 – $88,247 +/-

Monday – Friday 8am – 4:30pm with the potential for partial remote work

Job Functions

Lead the annual development of the Department’s Five-Year Transportation Program and the McHenry County Moves 2050 Long Range Transportation Plan.

Represent McHenry County at regional coordinating bodies (CMAP, RTA, and IDOT).

Develop, interpret, coordinate, implement and monitor transit and transportation policy and planning work consistent with all approved  McHenry County plans, including completion of written documents and reports; track, develop and analyze various local, regional, state,   and federal funding programs and project details, including preparation of reports.

Oversee the Planning Liaison Program for the McHenry County Council of Mayors (MCCOM) and direct all planning assistance required   for CMAP and the MCCOM.

Prepare plans and projections of future transit, transportation, economic or demographic conditions and trends; investigate and review federal and state legislation and regulations for potential impact on transit/transportation plans and programs.

Lead all public involvement efforts for Division of Transportation projects.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Education and Experience

Master’s degree in urban planning, civil engineering, or a related field and five (5) years of progressively responsible related professional planning experience; OR

Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, civil engineering, or a related field and seven (7) years of progressively responsible related planning experience.

Experience:

Candidate should possess excellent analytical, communication, public speaking, and organizational skills.

Knowledge of federal, state, and local government and transportation-related services and projects.

Use of computer hardware and software programs including word processing, document publishing, spreadsheets (Excel), databases, geographic information systems (GIS), email, presentation programs (PowerPoint), rendering programs (Sketch up, Lumion Pro, etc.), social media, video editing software, etc.

Supervisory experience

Required Licenses:

American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification desired, or ability to obtain within 2 years.

Valid State of Illinois driver’s license.
