McHenry County, Woodstock, IL – Permit Technician

McHenry County is the 6th largest county in the State of Illinois.   Located 20 miles northwest of Chicago, McHenry County is a growing community with a perfect combination of urban, suburban, and rural communities.  The McHenry County Division of Transportation’s Design Section seeks a motivated individual with a positive attitude to fill a full time Permit Technician (technical) position.

Hourly Rate: $19.70

Hours: 37.50/wk Monday- Friday

Job Summary

This is a non-exempt Permit Technician position responsible for reviewing/issuing and logging all types of access/utility permits.  Administers trucking permits and serves as the primary field utility coordinator.

Applicants will need to work in a fast-paced environment, be detail-oriented, and be able to multi-task. Strong organizational skills including attention to detail, problem solving and follow through are essential. Must be able to perform daily functions outside/inside the office without specific direction and supervision. Strong written and oral skills as well as effective working relationships with all types of people (property owners, motorists, contractors, permit applicants and other individuals that may be encountered on a day to day basis are a must.

Job Functions:

Review/Issue Log all types of permits.

Administer the Overweight/Oversize trucking permits and be the primary point of contact for permittees.

Serves as the primary MCDOT/JULIE locator.

Assist with staff plat review committee.

Assist staff to investigate encroachment into County right of way.

Assist Permit Manager, Design Manager and other staff members as needed.

Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications Required:

High School Diploma

Experience:

1 – 3 years’ of experience in municipal inspection and/or road construction maintenance.

Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and Adobe

Reading and interpreting utility, roadway and site plans as well as comparing the plans to existing conditions.

Desired Experience:

Surveying or project management experience

Other progressively relatable experience will be considered

Knowledge of Civil Engineering principles

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver’s License

Locator Certification
