Mecklenburg County, (pop. 1.million) seeks an experienced and innovative leader to serve as its next County Manager. The County Manager is appointed by and reports to a nine (9) member Board of County Commissioners, six of whom represent districts and three elected at large. The County Manager provides leadership for all County departments and agencies, a workforce of over 6,000 FTE and an operating budget of $2.5 billion for FY 2025.

The ideal candidate will have a proven record of success in managing large, complex organizations, fostering strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders, and leading critical initiatives that support the County’s long-term goals. A strong commitment to public service excellence and innovation, equity, and inclusivity is essential for this role. Proven experience and success in managing and resolving complex issues in the areas of public finance and budget, workforce development, health and human services, environmental stewardship and early childhood and educational attainment are priorities for the County Commission.

The successful candidate will demonstrate any combination of education and experience equivalent to a master's degree and at least ten years of increasingly responsible managerial experience working in a complex local government with seven of these years at the executive level.

The region offers 30+ music venues, 35+ museums and cultural attractions and 230 parks and playgrounds. 

Salary and Benefits:
