Minot, ND (population 48,377), seeks collaborative and team-oriented candidates for its next Assistant City Manager. The position is newly created, and the Assistant City Manager will report to the City Manager, serve on the City’s executive leadership team, and oversee the City’s Public Works, Engineering, Utilities, Transit and Solid Waste services. The combined departments include over 166 FTEs and a budget of up to $61 million dollars, including all enterprise funds and capital projects. Minot has a strong economy fueled by energy and agriculture. Minot is the 4th largest city in the state of North Dakota and is home to Minot State University. The Minot Air Base is home to over 12,346 active-duty military members and their dependents and an important part of the regional economy.
Minot has outstanding recreational amenities, which include the Roosevelt Park Zoo, numerous parks and over 100 miles of trails and six golf courses. Lake Sakakawea, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the country is nearby and Lake Audubon and Lake Darling are also short drives from Minot. Minot has an active downtown with unique shops and restaurants. Minot has excellent schools. The community enjoys direct air service to Minneapolis-St. Paul, Denver, Las Vegas, Mesa and Orlando. Minot also boasts The North Dakota State Fair, Norsk Hostfest, The Minot Symphony and numerous other cultural amenities and festivals.
Candidates must have: a bachelor’s degree in public administration, public policy, business administration or related field. A Master’s degree is preferred. Candidates will ideally have five to seven years’ increasingly responsible executive level experience in an organization of similar size, scope, and complexity. Any equivalent or combination of experience may be considered.
Candidates must be highly collaborative, proactive problem-solving leaders with an approachable, team-oriented management style and excellent communication skills. Candidates should also demonstrate experience in strategic planning and leadership development with a track record of implementing best practices in local government and/or public works.
