Pace, South Holland, IL. In partnership with Pace Suburban Bus, MGT is pleased to announce the recruitment process for the position of Chief Inspector. Under the direction of the Regional Manager of Maintenance & Technical Services, the Chief Inspector position is a safety-sensitive position responsible for research and development of technical specifications for fixed route and demand responsive vehicles. This is an individual-contributor position and does not oversee direct reports. This position has become available due to the retirement of a dedicated team member.

Key Responsibilities: 
  • Coordinates the manufacture, inspection, delivery and placement in service for public transit bus builds. 
  • Reviews and revises other technical requirements for the on-going safety inspection and support of over 1,200 revenue and non-revenue vehicles.
  • Administers warranty claims and manufacturer recalls. 
  • Some travel throughout the U.S. to bus manufacturers is required (approximately 3 weeks per quarter); however, most work is performed in an office environment. Work is infrequently performed in a garage setting, with potential exposure to loud noises, noxious odors, and other environmental conditions. 
 
Minimum Qualifications: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • A minimum of three years experience in project management, with a strong background in public transportation maintenance support areas.  An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered. 
  • Must be proficient using computers including Microsoft Office Suite applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel. 
  • Must have strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. 
  • Valid State of Illinois driver’s license, or ability to obtain one shortly upon hire.
 
Preferred Qualifications: 
  • Associate’s degree in structural or electrical engineering, or related field with emphasis on traffic and transportation engineering. 
  • Project management professional certification. 
  • Proficiency using software such as AutoCAD. 
  • Previous experience with project and vendor management.  
  • While experience in public sector or municipal work is a plus, relevant private sector experience will also be considered.

Compensation and Benefits:
The full salary range is $79,410 – $166,845 +/- DOQ. The anticipated starting salary range is $79,410 – $101,269. This position is primarily on-site at the South Holland location, and is not eligible for hybrid or telecommuting.
