The Village of Algonquin, home to approximately 29,700 residents, is nestled in the Fox River Valley in both Kane and McHenry counties and is conveniently located 45 miles from the Chicago Loop. The Village employs approximately 185 employees in four major service areas: General Services Administration, Community Development, Police, and Public Works. Each of these departments is further delineated into specific divisions that provide public services.

The Village of Algonquin is seeking applicants for the position of:
Senior Accountant

GENERAL DUTIES: This position performs a variety of accounting functions, such as:

• Processing cash receipts
• Preparing journal entries
• Completing bank reconciliations
• Month-end and year-end closing procedures
• Annual audit-related duties
• Preparation of a variety of financial reports
• Assisting in maintaining accurate financial records
• Investment tracking for all treasury functions
• Tracking and assisting with grant funding
• Performing related accounting tasks as assigned

In addition, you will research and help to implement the latest accounting standards, GASB pronouncements, Village policies and procedures, as well as accounting system modifications. You will also help facilitate communications between Finance and other Village departments. Must be able to maintain financial security by monitoring and adhering to internal controls.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
• A Bachelor’s degree in accounting, or equivalent.
• Experience in governmental fund accounting a plus.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) desired, but not required.
Must have strong organizational and problem-solving skills, the ability to work with a high degree of accuracy/attention to detail, knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), the ability to work independently and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, proficiency using spreadsheets and other financial software tools, and the ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, is key in this position. Must ensure best in class customer service is provided to both internal and external customers.
