About the Position
The Village of Arlington Heights is accepting applications for the position of Maintenance Worker I in the Streets Unit of the Public Works Department. As part of a dedicated team, the Maintenance Worker will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and reconstructing Village streets, curbs, sidewalks, parking garages, and other roadway structures. The Maintenance Worker I will perform hot mix asphalt, concrete, and paver brick repairs, and may operate equipment and machinery, including street sweepers. The Maintenance Worker I must be able to respond to scheduled and unscheduled overtime due to snow events, special events, wind storms, flooding events, and other unforeseen emergency occurrences.
The minimum starting salary for this position is $65,280 and includes a diverse and competitive benefits package, including health and dental insurance, paid vacation, and participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension plan. The normal work hours for this position are Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m.- 3:30 p.m. for a total of 40 hours per week.
Qualified candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED), and least one year of experience in general or municipal maintenance and repair. A valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License Class A with airbrake and tanker endorsements is preferred, or must be able to obtain within one year of hire.
