Barrington, IL – Engineering Intern

The Village of Barrington’s Development Services Department is seeking a self-motivated individual to fill the position of Engineering Intern for the Summer of 2025.

Working under the general direction of the Development Services Director and Village Engineer, essential duties include but may not be limited to: construction observation, annual road rating and municipal separate storm sewer system (MS4) inspections, permit review, mapping assistance, computer work, and general problem solving.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent, and current undergraduate or graduate school enrollment in engineering, construction, geographic information systems, environmental science or a related field. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work with contractors, consultants and residents is essential.  Candidates must have a valid driver’s license and be proficient in Microsoft programs. Outdoor work is also required.

The salary is $17.50 per hour, depending on qualifications.  Schedule is 32 hours per week, 4 days per week 8AM-4:30PM.  There are no benefits associated with this temporary position.
