The Village of Barrington seeks a creative team player to fill the newly created role of Communications Specialist.
Reporting to the Communications Manager, this role supports a wide range of communication and multimedia projects. In addition to assisting with the division’s daily tasks, the Communications Specialist will provide administrative support to the Events Manager in event-related preparation and execution. Other duties will include assisting in writing and curating content for various communication channels, including social media, newsletters, e-newsletters, Village websites, brochures, and event programs; help with development and execution of creative campaigns that engage the community; monitoring and analyzing campaign, social media and website metrics and preparing reports; assisting the Communications Manager with media, public relations, and crisis communications; promoting and marketing Barrington’s White House cultural programs and private events.
Qualified candidates must have a Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or a related field; one to three years of experience in communications, with municipal experience being a plus; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, Canva and Adobe Suite (or similar design tools), Constant Contact (or similar email marketing platforms), WordPress (or similar content management systems), Eventbrite, Google Ads management; strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to research and solve problems effectively. Must possess a valid Illinois Driver’s License, and access to personal transportation. Additional skills in photography, photo editing, graphic design, and video production are preferred. Hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00AM to 4:30PM for a total of 40 hours per week. Hours may vary according to event schedule.
The expected hiring range is $58,000 – $63,000 when annualized, depending on qualifications. Excellent benefits include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance, IMRF pension, deferred compensation plan, personal, vacation, sick and holiday paid time off.
