Village of Bloomingdale

The Bloomingdale Public Works Department is recruiting for two (2) full-time Maintenance Worker II openings in the Utilities Division.  The Maintenance Worker II is responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled to skilled tasks in the maintenance, repair, and construction of water and sewer system components and infrastructure.  This position reports to the Utilities Supervisor.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position for purposes of overtime calculation.  Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m., and may require overtime work and work on nights, holidays, and weekends.  The employee may be required to carry a cell phone and respond to callbacks.

The starting rate for Maintenance Worker II is $27.65 per hour, with a full pay range of $27.65 – $38.40 per hour (approximate annual equivalent $57,512 – $79,872).  This position is subject to a Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Village of Bloomingdale and the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150 (Union).  The pay range is expected to increase pending completion of negotiations with the Union.  In addition to compensation, the Village offers an excellent benefits package with participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund; medical, dental, and life insurance; 11 paid holidays; and paid vacation, sick, and personal leave.

The following duties are normal for this position.  These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Maintains water and sewer system components and infrastructure; repairs and maintains main lines, sanitary and storm sewers, lift stations, manholes, hydrants, b-boxes, and valves
  • Operates SCADA systems to monitor conditions
  • Performs physical labor in excavating, trenching, shoring, repairing water main breaks, and more; restores landscaping after excavations and construction
  • Updates and maintains records of locations of valves, b-boxes, and water mains
  • Conducts locates for water mains, sanitary, and storm sewers called in by contractors
  • Assists with snow plowing and ice control functions
  • Assists other Public Works divisions as assigned
  • Observes safe work practices and maintains regular attendance

This position requires performance of moderately physically demanding work under conditions that may require exposure to environmental factors such as temperature or noise extremes, confined spaces, machinery, chemicals, or disease.

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED with vocational/technical training in the construction trades or a related field with two to three years of public works experience or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.  The successful candidate must also possess a valid Illinois Commercial Driver’s License – Class A with a tanker endorsement within six months of employment.  Failure to obtain the CDL within the specified time frame may result in termination.

Random substance abuse testing is required for this position.
