The Village of Bolingbrook is seeking a qualified applicant to fill an open Electrician I position in the Public Works Department. The role is under the Electrical division, and under general supervision performs work of increasing difficulty in a variety of skilled maintenance and repair operations. Attends electrical classes and performs related work as required or assigned. This position is represented by the AFSCME union.

Assignment:    Electrical Section

Salary:                $73,492.90

Examples of Duties:

  • Repair and/or replacement of light fixtures, electrical devices, traffic signals, control panels, motors, and other related nomenclature
  • Assists electricians
  • Places conduit and pulls wire
  • Pours concrete
  • Performs excavation with manual or motorized equipment
  • Operates a variety of equipment including but not limited to: end loader, backhoe, trencher, bucket truck, auger, generator, compressor, welder, etc.
  • Uses a variety of hand and power tools
  • Plows snow
  • Lift and carries all types of equipment
  • Assist in other tasks as required.


  • Successfully complete a pre-employment physical, drug screening, and background check.
  • Possess a valid Illinois CDL license.
  • Two (2) years of experience in electrical maintenance.
  • Completion of basic Wiring and Circuit Design or equivalent related class per department Director or designee
  • Available to respond to emergency call outs and/or snow removal duties 24-hours.
  • Working knowledge in the use of heavy maintenance vehicles/equipment.
  • Ability to perform moderate manual labor requiring physical endurance and strength.
  • Knowledge of tool usage in maintenance and construction.
  • This position involves exposure to and requires the employee to function in the presence of: (i) Weather Conditions:  all and extreme weather conditions, (ii) Lighting Conditions: all and extreme lighting conditions, daylight and night light, with or without artificial light available, indoors and outdoors, and (iii) Potential personal danger exists with traffic control and working in and around traffic
  • Considerable knowledge of the usage of the equipment used in Public Works operations.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures with mechanized equipment.
  • Possession of equivalent job-related work experience and/or training.
  • Ability to keep records, write reports, fill out forms, and/or computer input.
  • Reside within thirteen (13) miles of the center of the Village of Bolingbrook (as determined by the Public Works Department), or within a municipality, any portion of which is located within thirteen (13) miles of the center of the Village of Bolingbrook, within six (6) months of the date the probationary period ends.
