Definition:      Under the general supervision of the division Foreman; operating, maintaining, and repairing Public Works equipment and vehicles. This position is represented by the AFSCME union.

Shift:                 40-Hour work week (Four / Ten-hour days per week) / possible weekend availability.

Salary:            $75,464.07

Assignment:   Maintenance Section
Examples Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining and repairing equipment at treatment plants and lift stations, such as tank drives, compressors, pumps, chlorinators, and motor systems.
  • Performing service calls.
  • Responding to lift station and treatment facility emergencies.
  • Recording daily flow totalizer and equipment hour meter readings.
  • Performing daily routine inspections of lift stations.
  • Data entry and report writing.
  • Maintaining buildings and grounds as required.
  • Performing preventative maintenance on process equipment as required.
  • Performs other tasks as required, or as assigned, which are within the scope of the duties enumerated pertaining to the Job Descriptions per Department.

Requirements:

  • High-school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical.
  • Possess an Illinois EPA Collection System License.
  • One (1) year of experience in the maintenance and repair of sewer mains, treatment equipment, and mechanical principals.
  • Completion of Industrial Maintenance Fundamentals course or equivalent, or six (6) months of acceptable job experience.
  • Possess a valid CDL license or have the ability to obtain one within 3-months of hire.
  • Availability to respond to emergency call outs and/or snow removal duties on a 24-hour basis.
  • Capability of performing heavy physical labor, up to and including lifting objects weighing between 120lbs and 150 lbs.
  • Operate a variety of equipment such as but not limited to, an end loader, backhoe, trencher, bucket truck, auger, generator, compressor, welder, and an assortment of hand and power tools.
  • Assist higher level personnel as assigned.
  • Operate equipment for removal of snow.
  • Fill out work reports.
  • Ability to walk, stand, kneel, or sit for long periods of time, and climb flights of stairs and ladders.
  • ·Able to endure exposure in extreme weather and lighting conditions, and the potential danger of working in or around traffic.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and non-verbally.
  • Knowledge of standard tool usages in maintenance & construction, supplies, and materials common in manual labor tasks.
  • Knowledge of safety procedures with mechanized equipment.
  • Reside in a community (or unincorporated areas) within the State of Illinois which falls within a thirty (30) mile radius of the intersection of Briarcliff Road and North Bolingbrook Drive (Route 53) within six (6) months of the date your probationary period ends.
